After much planning, saving and dreaming it’s finally happening! We’re off on Thursday for seven months of travelling across 16 countries.
It has always been something I wanted to do, but with life moving quickly from college to work it never seemed like the right point in life. The thought of not having a paycheck coming in next month was really daunting and the hassle of renting my apartment stopped from doing it.
The last year really got me thinking that it was the right moment to change my outlook on life and my career. Things had worked out nearly too well over the years that it was time to follow more of my own aspirations and take the initiative. I got to a point where the highs and lows around me seemed to affect my outlook on things too much instead of taking a step back and doing more to determine my own course. It’ll be interesting to see how I feel about things a few months into our trip. Everyone says “travelling will change your life”.
I’ll do a more detailed post over the next few days on how we chose our route. We start off in North America (New York first stop!) for five weeks before travelling through South America from Colombia to Brazil. In February & March next year we’ll be visiting friends in New Zealand and Australia before travelling around Malaysia and Thailand in April. We’re due to be back in Ireland on 28th April 2016 but with our round-the-world-ticket we can amend our flights if plans change.
John did up a map graphic.. always handy having a designer around! We’ll be updating our stops and dates on this page as we go along
We finished up at work last Friday which was exciting and strange to think you won’t be returning to the same office every day and seeing everyone in that environment again. I’ll of course be keeping in touch with people; but it will be different. Lots of fun and interesting times to reflect on from the last 18 months.
Saturday was a lovely day catching up with friends in town as a goodbye. Yummy brunch in Brother Hubbard followed by drinks & rugby in the Front Lounge, followed by more drinks.. chat.. drinks.. chat.. kebab.. home.
I was saying to John today that these few days between finishing work and flying out on Thursday must be how couples feel after a wedding (no hint intended!!)… time to relax after a stressful few weeks before jetting off. We’ve just been catching up on sleep, doing last minute shopping and putting more things in our parents attics. A few things still to buy.. malaria tablets and plug adapters. Plus a quick trip to Pennys!
We’ll see how these blog posts go. John’s going to post separate posts so you’ll get both of our takes on the trip and destinations. My bets on his being slightly more amusing.. while mine will share too much!Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download
Feel free to send on any travel tips or a quick Hi!
